Peak Dates Holidays

Families and groups considering Meribel for their Easter ski holiday have a few factors to bear in mind because whilst this is undoubtedly an exceptional resort, there are pros and cons involved.

Easter sees children free from school, which makes it a popular week for parents taking the kids to the Alps. Meribel is a very family friendly ski resort, so it works well for this reason. The slopes in the Altiport are open, wide and gentle – perfect for learning on – and for more advanced skiers the range of terrain in the Meribel valley alone is outstanding.

There is a good number of chairlifts and gondolas in place in and around Meribel Centre, well capable of handling the extra skier traffic associated with UK school holidays. Lifts like the Rhodos, which takes you straight to the Altiport, and the Saulire, which takes you up to the Meribel/Courchevel border, are swift and modern which means reduced queues and more ski time.

Furthermore, families with children often require a good range of non-ski activities in case the kids need a break from skiing. With pursuits such as ice-karting, snow-shoeing, climbing walls and husky sledding alongside the more traditional cinema and bowling alleys, Meribel is a resort well suited to Easter skiing with children.

For groups looking to enjoy the resort’s nightlife, Easter brings a different atmosphere to proceedings. Gone are the freezing walks through the snow to the pub, and instead the bars throw open their doors to sunny terraces and a welcoming Spring atmosphere.

But of course at around 1400 metres, Meribel is of only average altitude so skiers keen to get the best of the snow could consider higher resorts. That said, from la Chaudanne the gondolas heading up into the valley run up to respectable altitudes and the snow stays on-piste right through to the end of April, so it’s not a major concern.
